Mythic announces official forums for WAR (with a twist)

Published by under 38840

Filed under: Fantasy, Forums, Warhammer Online
Having official forums for an MMORPG might not seem like big news to the average gamer, but it sure is when you’re talking about Mythic Entertainment finally announcing official forums for Warhammer Online. You see, Mythic GM, Mark Jacobs has been very outspoken about his disdain for OFs. At one point he had this to say when questioned if WAR would ever have OFs. He hated the idea of them that much… There must have been some pretty good reasons to reverse such a staunch view on OFs and Mark was kind enough to elaborate in an open letter to the community. It simply comes down to being able to…

Kotaku Originals: Broken Record [Original]

Published by under 38836

Not the good kind either, the roid-infused home run record kind. I mean the old-school “broken record” which repeats the same phrase until you lift the needle. In this case: Workers fired, business…

The Old Republic video details Tython, shows off unexpected footage

Published by under Uncategorized

Filed under: Video, New titles, News items, Star Wars: The Old Republic
BioWare has unleashed what they’re calling the first Developer Dispatch on their official Star Wars: The Old Republic website. In truth, it’s an exceptionally high quality developer diary video centered around Jedi training planet Tython and its laborious creation. And while that doesn’t sound particularly awesome, it actually is pretty much that. Disappointingly, no new combat footage was given up this time around. Mostly, we weren’t given any gameplay to indulge upon. What was offered was soothing geek-surances like the above image of lightsaber concept-to-game model. This is BioWare…

WRUP: A very merry unbirthday edition

Published by under Uncategorized

Today isn’t, in fact, the birthday of anyone on the Massively staff. But being as our own Brendan Drain is belatedly celebrating his birthday this weekend with some EverQuest 2 time, it seems as good a time as any to celebrate everyone’s unbirthday with virtual cake and candles. But as we’re closest to Brendan’s birthday, this (un)birthday cake is in his honor. Brendan Drain: I’ll be belatedly celebrating my birthday from Jan 22nd so not much time to play. I’ll be playing EQ2 all today with a friend where we’ll try out Everfrost zone and tomorrow if I have time maybe try to capture some…

The Daily Grind: If you could only play one…

Published by under Uncategorized

Filed under: Opinion, The Daily Grind
If you’re reading Massively, chances are that you like to hear about a range of different MMOs and not just one title. We know for a fact that lots of you have multiple subscriptions going at the same time. What if we were to take away that freedom, and tell you that you could only play one MMO — forever. We’re not saying that you’d be handcuffed to your desk and forced to play for all eternity like a gold farmer, but that this would be the last MMO you’d be able to play (this includes all business models, pay and free-to-play alike). With all your MMO gaming riding on one horse, you would…

ATEI 2009: RAMBO

Published by under Uncategorized

Click here to view the embedded video.
I’m sure a lot of you have wanted to get your teeth into this game, since we first saw pictures of it last year.
Based on the first three Rambo movies and simply titled, “RAMBO,” this light gun arcade title will put you in the shoes of Sylvester Stallone, as he goes off on a rampage.
Now I’m going to shock you all by saying that I have never seen a Rambo film all the way through.  Not that I don’t want to, just for some reason I’ve got round to it.  So, I’m not entirely sure if the levels play out properly, like the Rambo movies do, but the impression I get is that the levels are very loosely based on events from each movie.
RAMBO plays very much like a traditional light gun title; men jumping out in front of you like cannon fodder.  It reminded [...]

ATEI 2009: Brick People

Published by under 38812

I really wasn’t sure what to think when I first saw Brick People standing there at the show.  “What is this thing?” “Is this an exhibition or a children’s crèche?”  But Brick People soon turned out to be one of my favourite experiences of the show!
Brick People is an arcade game designed with kids in mind, which means that it has a very simple premise, is colourful to look at, and is so easy to play that even the dumbest four-year old can handle it.  Allow me to explain.
The game’s main characters are little people (who remind me of ducks), called “Brick People,” and the objective of the game is to guide the Brick People to various food-based objects, so they can eat them.  Once all the food on screen has been eaten, the level is over.
However there are some evil Brick People (ducks with devil horns), who’s purpose is to foil [...]

GoNintendo ‘End of day’ thoughts – Nintendo customer service at its best: Family suffers house fire, Nintendo steps in to replace lost Nintendo items

Published by under Uncategorized

Important note for all your podcast-fans. We will be doing the live-stream sometime around 11 AM EST this morning. I have a family obligation, which has bumped up the podcast time. No worries, news updates will continue on their weekend schedule as usual. If I didn’t tell you that I had family obligations, you would have never noticed a difference! Once again, live-stream podcast sometime around 11 PM EST. We hope to see you in the IRC!
I’m off to bed for the night, gang. Thanks for letting me slip out on a Friday night. I hope you were out and about doing much more fun things than sitting at a computer! See you all in a few, short hours.

I can’t think of a better way to kick off a weekend. This is one of the most heart-warming stories I’ve heard [...]
