That Joker Sure Can Sell Games!

Published by admin under 66557

First Person Shooters may sell comfortably well on Microsoft’s system but who would have thought a superhero game would sell more on the PS3. That’s the case with  this summer’s Batman: Arkham Asylum. The PS3 version is currently leading the 360 counterpart by 10,000 units. Maybe not the landslide difference when compared to other recently released multi-platform games but it should come as no surprise why the PS3 version is leading.

Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich believes there’s only one reason for the PS3 version’s lead, exclusive content;

“With Batman, the evidence is clear, getting exclusivity on content can play a large role in driving sales to your console,” he told IGN. “In fact, if you calculate the additional sales the PS3 version received, extrapolate that worldwide, Sony likely generated an additional $2 million in royalty revenue from this exclusive content.”

PS3 gamers who bought Batman: Arkham Asylum were treated to additional content not available on the 360 version of the game  in the form of  everyone’s favorite homicidal clown,The Joker.

If exclusive content sells more games on a system with the smallest install base then Electronic Arts’ upcoming release of Dante’s Inferno may be the next multi-platform title to lead on PlayStation 3. An exclusive special edition has been announced only for the PS3.

Video of Anarchy Online’s new engine uncovered

Published by admin under 66509

It’s a rough cut and it’s short, but this YouTube video shows something many people have been eagerly anticipating — the updated graphics engine for Anarchy Online.

Anarchy Online, Funcom’s first foray into the MMO genre, is still running after 8 years of history and evolving storyline. While the game has been running on a free to play model for quite some time now, that’s not stopping the team at Funcom from giving it the new graphical polish it deserves. And, trust us when we say this, they need a spit shine on this old engine. Just look at the game’s graphics when we recently revisited it for ReSubbed.

The graphics engine update is still without a release date, but hopefully with this video evidence being released the update won’t be too far in the future. You want to see it? Well we’ve embedded it right after the break for you.

Winter screenshot contest for Champions Online

Published by admin under 66511

We’re approaching the winter solstice yet again, known in some parts of the world as “that time when it gets so cold your eyes frost over.” In order to take at least some of the sting off the weather, Champions Online is offering players a reason to get in the mood of dressing in seven layers of clothing and turning the heat up high enough to melt plastic. After all, even heroes can get cold on occasion, and being able to project beams of force from your eyes doesn’t necessarily help you drive through a whirling blizzard, so it’s high time for the game’s first winter screenshot contest.

The contest runs until 11:59 PST on December 20th, and to enter, all that one must do is post a screenshot with a winter theme to this thread on the official boards. It could be a costume that’s suited to the chilly weather, a hero traipsing about in a winter wonderland, or whatever else you can come up with that fits the theme. The winners will receive an in-game Retro Destroyer action figure for their efforts, which won’t help keep you warm, but might help keep you smiling anyway as you scrape seventeen inches of ice off the front windshield of your car.
