It looks like we’re getting another version update to Final Fantasy XI in March. The update’s existence was broken by the official site today, promising more information when VanaFest rolls around in only five days. All we know at the moment is that it will feature expanded missions and improvements across the board, which is more or less standard fare for the game’s large updates.
Of course, that means the update certainly isn’t the big news that’s promised at the upcoming fan festival. But there’s a rumor flying around that we might want to enjoy this update a lot. Square-Enix, it’s hinted, won’t have the game slowly bleed out as Final Fantasy XIV comes into its own — they’re going to outright shut the game down. An employee posted and then retracted a statement implying that the venerable game would shut its doors to make way for Final Fantasy XIV.
Confirmed? Not by a long shot. Square has stated they’ve got more in store for the game, and more than a few players are hoping that a new expansion is the big secret to be revealed at the fan festival. Still, we’ll find out soon enough what the future holds for Final Fantasy XI… and perhaps we’d best treasure our time with it now, just in case.
Rumor: Final Fantasy XI’s March update may be the last for the game originally appeared on Massively on Tue, 23 Feb 2010 19:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Alright, this week we see the biggest release of 2010 thus far in Heavy Rain (though, Japan had gotten a hold of it last week). With overwhelmingly positive reviews (and last I checked an 88 on Metacritic), this game has gotten a lot of attention in the last month or so, and the PS3’s sales had picked up a supposed 160%, most likely due to this and next month’s God of War 3.
Along with that, there is also Last Rebellion and Sonic and Sega All-Star Racing (which, obviously, is like a Sega’d Mario Kart, though, I don’t know how fun it is or anything, but there is a demo available on the store). As far as Europe goes, they are also getting White Knight Chronicles (which is also being released in Australia as well). Though I’m not too thrilled about RPGs, this is supposedly a great game according to a lot of the folks here.

Hrm. After a brief vacation, darlings, I am back at the reigns of my column. Neriak was lovely this time of year — I encourage you all to stop by for a visit if you have the time.
But who has the time these days, right? All of your are off exploring Odus as if you haven’t seen the place in 500 years. I hear that some adventurers are already tackling some of the most dangerous dungeons on that continent already! My, my, my, how you all tackle your challenges so quickly.
Many of you have had some very interesting things to say about Odus, and I’ve been silently watching and taking some notes. I’ve got them all right here, tucked away in my notebook. I’ve even amassed some answers for a few of your more common problems, just in time for the digital download release today. But, all of you can never say that Seccia Ravenloft was a secretive elf. I’m more than happy to share my findings so come closely, gather around the campfire, and listen here.
