Game developer Jagex is perhaps best known for its popular browser MMO RuneScape, which is still going strong after over 10 years of development. Just over a year ago, the company made a move into the MMORTS market with its free-to-play browser game War of Legends. Last month, the game celebrated its first anniversary by giving players a free birthday cake filled with items to speed up construction, resource gathering and other parts of the game. With that celebration barely over, War of Legends has launched head-first into yet another event with the Chinese New Year.

As War of Legends is based heavily on ancient Chinese mythology, the Chinese New Year is a big time of year for the game. In keeping with a traditional Chinese theme, Jagex will be giving away red envelopes containing prizes to players every day for the next two weeks. Each envelope contains in-game items valued by the company at up to $20 US, and players have the opportunity to find more prizes by invading the Wildlands during the two-week celebration period. For those players who want something simpler, Jagex will also be running some limited-time daily tasks during the Chinese New Year with a variety of helpful rewards.

If the game or movie isn’t listed, you can add it to the community. Make sure you add all relevant tags and information it asks for. We already have some of our members signed up on the new site. I’ve put a widget in the community part of the site that will show the latest activity as well. There is also a link in the main menu for this site under Reviews called “User Reviews”.

DC Universe Online is the first major MMO release of 2011 and MMORPG.com Lead Writer Bill Murphy has been following the game since its announcement. The Far Seas Caravan toted their goods across the lush lands of Greater Faydark, setting up their tents on the Green Knoll for the Kelethin City Festival. One new specialty item, an Engraved Kelethin Door, is available and can be purchased from Chris Weathers. The city festival will run until 11:59pm PST on February 7th.

Spreading the word of love is what the Sisterhood of Erollisi, along with the Swornlove siblings, has dedicated their lives to. Players can help out the followers of the Goddess of Love during the annual holiday, Erollisi Day. While the specific details of what’s new in this year’s event have yet to be revealed, we have been informed that the event is expected to run from 12:01am PST on February 9th through 11:59pm PST on February 20th. Any servers affected by a merger during the event will have it extended one day, to conclude at 11:59pm PST on February 21st.

The phases of the moon will reveal the mysterious grottos again later in the month and their denizens will gladly offer you some tasks to perform. Moonlight Enchantments will run from 12:01am PST on February 20th until 11:59pm PST on February 21st.

EverQuest II’s long-awaited seventh expansion, Destiny of Velious, will be released on February 22nd. The prelude quests will come to a conclusion before the server downtime for the expansion. Speak to the Duality in the City of Paineel to learn the lore behind the events that transpire between Sentinel’s Fate and Destiny of Velious, as well as earning some rewards along the way.

Aeria Games has announced the commencement of its DotA inspired MMORTS, Realm of Titans. There is no word on how long the closed beta will last but the dev team assures us that applications are still being accepted.

Are you a fresh-faced rookie looking to get a leg up on the competition in Wargaming.net’s World of Tanks open beta? If so, you’ll want to check out the game’s newly launched video tutorials. The first entry in the ongoing series introduces the level system, upgrade options, crew training, and economic aspects of the armor-based action MMO, and it is aimed at newbs who might otherwise be unsure of how to proceed at the controls of a World War II-era tank.

“We saw a lot of new recruits joining World of Tanks with the open beta start. These new videos are designed to make their life a little bit easier and help them adapt quicker to the harsh reality of the armored world we are creating,” said Wargaming.net producer Nick Katselapov.

World of Tanks features over 150 historically accurate armored vehicles from America, Germany, and the Soviet Union. The title boasts 15v15 PvP action, global clan wars, and a mixture of action, strategy, and simulation. Ken “Graalx2″ Burd has penned a new Lord of the Rings Online blog post in which he lays out issues that fans feel the Burglar class faces. Burd discusses seven critical changes to the Burglar class in the coming months including power regeneration, more speed when ’stealthed’ and including the ability to get into “Mischief” stance during battle.

Fans of Team Fortress 2 will want to check out a new deal hammered out between Trion Worlds and Valve. Folks preordering Rift on Steam will automatically be given two free Rift-inspired TF2 melee weapons called the “Sharpened Volcano Fragment” and “Sun-on-a-stick.” TF2 players also have the chance to score an achievement that will give them the “Well Spun Hat” in Rift.

Stonecasters of the world unite! UTV True Games is kicking off the start of Mytheon’s closed beta by inviting back previous testers as well as new ones. If you’re one of the former, you’ll find that quite a few changes have come to the F2P fantasy game. If you’re new and looking to get started with Mytheon’s beta, UTV has the sign-up form front and center on its official website. Testers will be given the “VIP treatment,” according to a UTV press release, and they will be able to take part in leaderboard-driven PvP matches, mythology-based trivia contests (with unique prizes), and hourly in-game giveaways.

Mytheon is an action MMORPG that mixes strategy with elements of classical mythology. The game has undergone a lengthy development process and has even survived a source code-related legal spat between UTV and Petroglyph (the title’s original developer).
