The PS3 Xbox 360 Controller? Over at Xbox-Scene Forums, moderator RDC has modded an Xbox 360 controller into a PS3 controller, writing: “The D-pad, Select, PS, Start, Square, Triangle, Circle, Cross, L1/R1 and L3/R3 buttons are all wired up right now and working, as are the LEDs for showing which controller it is.” So, yes, this Frankencontroller will work with a PS3. And if that wasn’t enough, RDC did the same in reverse by modding a DualShock 3 into an Xbox 360 controller. Take a look after the jump.

There Will Be No More Brain Training [Brain Training] http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/there-will-be-no-more-brain-training-brain-training/ http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/there-will-be-no-more-brain-training-brain-training/#comments Fri, 04 Jul 2008 04:30:00 +0000 http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/there-will-be-no-more-brain-training-brain-training/ For a game built upon endless repetition, Brain Training’s certainly making an impression on some people, because years on from release, the two games are still selling like fancy, heated cakes. So Nintendo are surely working on more, yes? Itprintsmoney.gif and all that? No. Having most likely noticed the fact people can’t tell the two games apart, and still buy more of the original than the sequel, it’s been announced by Nintendo (grain of salt notice: Nintendo Europe) that two will do, and they’ll just keep on selling them for millennia until our sun expands, killing us all in a blinding flash of white.

Tank Talk: Building and keeping your tanking corps, Part I http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/tank-talk-building-and-keeping-your-tanking-corps-part-i/ http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/tank-talk-building-and-keeping-your-tanking-corps-part-i/#comments Fri, 04 Jul 2008 04:10:00 +0000 http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/tank-talk-building-and-keeping-your-tanking-corps-part-i/ Filed under: , , , , ,

Tank Talk is WoW Insider’s new raid-tanking column, promising you an exciting and educational look at the world of getting the stuffing thrashed out of you in a 10- or 25-man raid. The column will be rotated amongst Matthew Rossi (Warrior/Paladin), Adam Holisky (Warrior), Michael Gray (Paladin), and Allison Robert (Druid). Our aim is to use this column to debate and discuss class differences, raid-tanking strategies, tips, tricks, and news concerning all things meatshieldish.

This week on Tank Talk I’d like to step outside the technical aspects of being a tank and focus more on the psychosocial side of things. In particular I want to look at what happens when a tank is introduced into a tanking corps of a new guild, how to keep current tanks around, and how to deal with all those old tanks that have been in the guild forever.

For lack of a better phrase, I’ll call the time from when a tank joining the guild until their eventual status as “god of all things tank” the life span of a tank. And perhaps the most important part of a tanks life is the new part, and it’s something that I’ve been on both sides of the coin - the one doing the inviting, and the one being invited. Each is equally exciting. When joining a new guild I had not only the opportunity to see new content and progress to new heights, but also an opportunity to improve my skill and focus my ability to tank a mean game. And when I became class lead and eventually the guild’s leader, I gained an opportunity to help new tanks become acquainted with our style of game play and watch them succeed and excel within the guild.

I like to look at there being mainly fives stages of a tank’s life within a guild: Recruitment, Applicant, Raider, Senior Tank, and Mentor. Let’s take a look at each of these and see how people in various stages can help usher a new tank into a guild’s tanking corpse while keeping the old tanks around and happy. Since this is a long subject, today I’ll cover the recruitment and applicant stages in a tank’s life, with the raider, senior tank, and mentor stages coming in the second installment tomorrow.

PSN Staying Free, Kids [Playstation Network] http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/psn-staying-free-kids-playstation-network/ http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/psn-staying-free-kids-playstation-network/#comments Fri, 04 Jul 2008 03:40:00 +0000 http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/psn-staying-free-kids-playstation-network/ The more people buy PS3s, the more people sign up to the the PSN. The more people sign up to the PSN, the more it costs Sony to keep the thing running. So will there come a time when Sony start charging you for the use of the PSN? Maybe! You can never rule that kinda thing out. But if they are, they’re not doing it soon, with PSN boss (and man of the moment) Eric Lempel saying:

We’re happy with what we’re doing right now and we’re going to stick with it. I think being free is always an advantage. The fact that it’s free is nice for consumers who want to try out the online experience, those who may be new to it and may not be ready to commit to spending dollars, and that’s a really good message for us.

Course, Eric then says that leaves you with money free for game subscriptions (and he doesn’t mention Qore), but his basic point remains valid! Free stuff is nice.

Dunno. We’ve lost count. Especially now that we know there are two more coming, one for the PSP, one for the DS. The PSP one’s called Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2, which will feature the same main character as the upcoming Tales of Vesperia for the 360. The DS one’s called Tales of The Heart (pictured). Both will be out in Japan by the end of the year, no word yet on Western dates.

64 Percent of Those Polled Gave Up Wii Fit [Japan] http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/64-percent-of-those-polled-gave-up-wii-fit-japan/ http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/64-percent-of-those-polled-gave-up-wii-fit-japan/#comments Fri, 04 Jul 2008 03:00:00 +0000 http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/64-percent-of-those-polled-gave-up-wii-fit-japan/ Wii Fit has done big business in Japan — and pretty much everywhere, for that matter. The peripheral and game went on sale late last year in The Land of the Rising Sun, and Japanese website IT Media poses the question: Do Wii Fit owners actually still play Wii Fit everyday? Short answer: Nope. According to the thousand IT Media readers polled (for whatever that’s worth), the majority of them do not play their copies of Wii Fit (ditto). Here’s the breakdown:

Do you use Wii Fit faithfully everyday?
• 22 percent — I record my progress faithfully everyday
• 6 percent — Maybe once every two or three days
• 6 percent — Once a week
• 64 percent — Stopped using after purchase

Like any exercise program, most people quite early on. Guess it’s good that even 22 percent are sticking with it, but still. Any Wii Fit owners out there? Do you use Wii Fit faithfully everyday?

G4’s X-play gained access to the FireSky Studios where the developers are hard at work on Stargate Worlds. G4 was allowed to open the Stargate and returned back with gameplay footage, while undergoing their mission they infiltrated Studio Head Dan Elggren, Creative Director Chris Klug and Art Director Howard Lyon. As for game footage Elggren took a character through several environments of a pre-alpha build and played through an assault on a drug lord stronghold on the alien planet Lucia. The game is looking great, albeit some video lag in some parts. No earth-shattering revelations were disclosed, but if you’d like learn about the game be sure to check out all our SGW coverage.

Beta opt-in F.A.Q. http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/beta-opt-in-faq/ http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/beta-opt-in-faq/#comments Fri, 04 Jul 2008 02:55:00 +0000 http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/beta-opt-in-faq/ Filed under: ,

More beta news for everyone to enjoy tonight. Bornakk has posted what Nethaera promised earlier in the day, a Wrath of the Lich King beta opt-in F.A.Q. The complete F.A.Q. is republished here for your convenience, and is definitely something everyone should read and re-read. Some of the key things to come out of the F.A.Q.:

  • You are not guaranteed to get into the WotLK beta if you have a BlizzCon or WWI beta keys. These keys might go to another beta (like Diablo III).
  • You can opt-in on multiple accounts, but each account can only opt-in once.
  • If you get a key with one account, you can use it on another account of your choosing. However the key can only be used once.
  • Opting in early does not necessarily mean you will get a beta slot early. Everything is random (as we previous reported).
  • If you get a beta key from another source and are selected via the opt-in process, you can give your key to a friend or family member.

Full F.A.Q. after the break.

Gundam Doubles Xbox 360 Sales In Japan As PSP Holds Strong In First [Simple 2000: The Japanese Hardware Chart] http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/gundam-doubles-xbox-360-sales-in-japan-as-psp-holds-strong-in-first-simple-2000-the-japanese-hardware-chart/ http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/gundam-doubles-xbox-360-sales-in-japan-as-psp-holds-strong-in-first-simple-2000-the-japanese-hardware-chart/#comments Fri, 04 Jul 2008 02:40:36 +0000 http://www.mmoclerks.com/2008/07/03/gundam-doubles-xbox-360-sales-in-japan-as-psp-holds-strong-in-first-simple-2000-the-japanese-hardware-chart/ Just because Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G sales are waning (finally) doesn’t mean that the urge to buy PSP hardware is becoming any less intense. And even though the PSP doesn’t have any software showing in the top ten for the week doesn’t mean that it can’t continue to rule the roost on the Media Create weekly sales charts. Nintendo hardware continues to nip at its lead and we imagine fortunes will change soon.

Somewhat more surprising is the big boost that the Xbox 360 got during the week of June 23 to 29. The release of Mobile Suit Gundam: Operation: Troy certainly seems to have helped Microsoft move some hardware. They really should just rebrand the thing the Xbox RX-78-2 locally. Can’t hurt.

  • PSP - 58,861
  • Nintendo DS - 48,884
  • Wii - 48,480
  • PlayStation 3 - 17,973
  • PlayStation 2 - 7,673
